Tappet block?

Need to ask about fitment of shovel tappet blocks on a panhead engine.

The tappet blocks have these numbers cast/impinted on them

18601-73 FRONT

18611-73 REAR

Will they fit and work properly on a 58FL engine?

The ones I have got plenty of wrinkle black paint on them, and it is hard as a, once I get the paint off of them, I can see that markings are on them.

PS, on the blocks that came off of the engine,

Rear one has busted up ears, and it is off a shovel... front one, is original pan.

Hi George, did you ever check the clearance on those lifter blocks? They looked great to my untrained eyes but I never checked the fit...Mike

They will fit but 73 use a different bolt then the pan tappet blocks, pan and early shovel use a self centering bolt and ofcourse you have to watch the different threads on the bolts,

Hey George,
Just butting in here, but might I suggest the Andrews "A" instead of the "J"? Alot more bang than the J, with no disadvantages. With a J, you hardly know you've done anything. Whereas the A, if you decide to twist the wrist a little, has decidedly more "get up and go". Now, I realize we're all old enough not to care about such things anymore, but sometimes on a nice Spring day...... you know the feeling. :lol: :lol:

More 'goose' is always good, DD!

Beware, however, that the "A" is NOT compatible with stock Pan hydraulics and oiling system!

Yep had to do a bit of mix & match/measuring, but they fit at 1.5 thou. THANKS!!

Herr Dr. The "J" cam, was almost a freebee, and its new, so for the time being I am going to use it, just waiting on a good cam cover that I found in Finland to arrive here in Germany, then its off to the US to be with the other parts and waiting for me to come back to the US in May to make some more fun with the bike.

?? For ya....Do you know if using a 65A 12Volt 2 brush, with the combination of a 6Volt armature it will work .. and be reliable? I was reading over some old posts and I have 2 65A generators, that apparently the armatures are shot, so I am considering using one of the NOS 6 volt ones.

Not to say I know for sure, but bought some shovel tappet block gaskets the other day and they use different gaskets for pan blocks. When I saw that I thought the hole patterns were different?
