Clutch problems

Here is a picture of what came out of my clutch. I recently acquired a 1975 FLH and the clutch was dragging real bad. I tried to adjust it by the book but it didn't help. I took the clutch apart today and 8 of the 10 springs were broken. Can anyone tell me what would cause something like this to happen and do I need to look for something other than the replacement springs? The friction and steel plates look fairly new.

Check the support bearing behind the primary cover.

Those Springs, Might be suffering from Hydrogen Embrittlement. They appear to be plated. May be? The source of springs, Did Not bake them after plating!
I never use Hidden Plated Springs, Expecially on Clutch Plates. Any good Spring Shop will form a good set for You.
