ignition mystery

My 47 died when I pulled up to my shop a few months ago so I pushed it in meaning to check it out, 3 months later I put a 12 volt battery in it and switched on lights but nothing. 12.4 volts at battery, turn on ignition switch and battery voltage almost immediately drops to 4 and sinking. Traced to the points, as soon as points close, battery voltage drops. Points open, voltage fine, Replaced points and condenser with some NOS Accell (automatic advance distributor), old points looked fine. Checked wiring, tried 2 other coils, same. All tested fine with primary resistance at 5.7 ohms, secondary between 16k and 20k ohms. Weird, uh...

Try another battery.

good idear, I was running a regular vented one and now put in a sealed one, maybe its bad.

Yup, seems the battery is shorted, thot is was one o them I got from interweb but relized it came from scrap yard
